Ken Young specialized in management labor and employment law during his 30-year legal career. He began with a national labor and employment firm, Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, and was most recently a partner with Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough, a full service law firm with over 550 attorneys. At Nelson Mullins, Ken was head of the labor and employment group for 20 years. He was lead or co-counsel in over 25 published opinions at all levels, from state and federal district courts, the National Labor Relations Board, U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeal and the United States Supreme Court. Ken, a Fellow of the national College of Labor and Employment Lawyers, has been consistently recognized in The Best Lawyers in America and in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business. Corporate Counsel Magazine named Ken to its list of the best labor and employment lawyers in America.

Long active in the American Bar Association, Ken has served on the ABA’s Board of Governors and its Finance Committee.  He also served in the ABA’s House of Delegates in various representative capacities for 28 years. Ken was an officer of the ABA Labor and Employment Section and served on the Council of the ABA Law Practice Management Division.  He has also served as a member of the South Carolina Bar Board of Governors.

After starting Young Mayden in 2007, Ken has been involved in many law firm strategic growth initiatives, including helping law firms merge as well as advising on whether and how to open new offices and launch new practice areas. He has also conducted numerous searches for corporate legal departments and law related organizations such as the ABA, the Uniform Law Commission in Chicago, the World Justice Project in Washington, D.C., the National Judicial College in Reno, Nevada, and several state bar associations.
